Engineering Officer — Training Ship State of Michigan (Great Lakes Maritime Academy) – Traverse City, MI
Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
The position is responsible for serving as a key member of the team that ensures the overall safe operation of the Training Ship State of Michigan, an unlimited tonnage U.S. flag merchant vessel, in accordance with US regulations and MARAD directives. This person will also be critical to ensuring the best use of the vessel is made in an effort to make certain cadets have the ability to graduate per their model schedule and all engine cadets can sit for their USCG license during their senior year.
This person will normally be working under the direction of the vessel’s Chief Engineer and 1st Assistant Engineer. When the vessel is underway and he/ she is not sailing on vessel, and not on vacation, this person will work with the Academy Superintendent as needed in a port engineer capacity.

Required:
Bachelor's Degree
Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential Card obtained in the first 6 months of employment
U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner’s Credential endorsed as 3rd Assistant Engineer (motor), unlimited horsepower, or the ability to sit for this license based on military transcript of sea service
STCW endorsement as Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch Qualifications
